Analysis of Form – Female Bust Part 01

Posted on 2012/03/07 at 09:43 by daarken 14 Comments

In this video Daarken will start a drawing from life of a female bust. In this first section Daarken will talk about blocking in the drawing. Since these videos are all filmed in real time, the video is broken up into three parts. This first part only covers blocking in the line drawing.

Another great video, looking forward to part 2.

I wanted to ask, would you recommend getting some plaster busts to study light and form from as a reasonable substitute for painting from live models, if its difficult to get to life drawing class?

Sure, they can always help, especially with lighting. The only problem is that they aren’t posable, so you will have to end up drawing the same thing over and over.

What’s up with the gloves if you don’t mind me asking?

And as always, great video and much, much thanks for these.

The gloves are for carpal tunnel. I talk about them in my other videos, like this one.

I’m wondering where you got your bust from? I’ve been looking for busts and other sculptures to draw and paint for a long time. But I seem to find stuff that is either poor quality or it costs far too much for me to justify buying it.

Any tips or places you can recommend?

Hah, I actually got mine from school. They didn’t want it anymore, so my wife grabbed it.

The video works for other people, so I’m not sure what the problem is. Maybe your country or browser is blocking it. You can also try going directly to vimeo to see if it works there.
