Still Life – Painting Eggs

This tutorial continues with more still life painting but focuses on rendering an object with a matte surface as opposed to the shiny surface of an apple. This tutorial also shows how to render a high key object. Not all paintings need a lot of contrast.

Homework
Create a still life painting of an egg in greyscale. You can have other objects in the scene, but make sure you have at least one egg. If you have multiple objects in your scene, make sure to have an interesting composition, overlapping elements, and nice lighting. Upload your finals to the Still Life – Painting Eggs thread located in the Tutorial Homework forum.

Excellent cant wait to get home from 3rd shift and start rendering
REally nice tutorial. I will do mine too. I really like the explenation you gave about the Matte sorface. I didn’t know about this surface. I mean I have drawn different surfaces but never knew the name. Thank a lot!!!
i’m right hand, but i always have problems drawing the right side xD, very cool vid, i’ll make my homework today :D, thanks for the video Daarken!
Me too I cant wait to do mine either :)
what is the difference with having airbrush enabled vs not?
@2:25 Daarken is talking about a checkered square that he enabled, just for everyone’s information, that little checkered square is the “Lock Transparency” option. It locks the transparent areas on the specific layer out so you can only work on the area where you have painted.
Btw, awesome video.
Cheers!

You forgot to mention that you made a “Copy merged” version of the egg and the background! Anyway, as expected, good tutorial.
