This Patreon will provide a cheaper alternative to my current mentorship programs. I will be providing paintovers, written notes, personal assignments, video feedback with audio commentary, and chat sessions. If you are looking to receive feedback from an industry professional and improve your work, you have come to the right place.
Artists will submit their image via email. Since most tiers allow up to two image paintovers per month, you get to decide when you submit your two images each month.
For students with the personal assignment tier, I would suggest saving one of your paintovers per month for the personal assignment.
Please take a look at my Patreon!
When do we get the rewards?
Since this is a monthly Patreon, rewards should go out at the beginning of the month after everyone is billed. Since everyone will be turning in their assignments at different times, the paintovers will hopefully go out shortly after receiving the painting. I would say give me at least a few days for me to do the paintover, export it, and upload it.
What if I join after the 1st? Do I have to wait until the next month to receive rewards?
Unfortunately yes. The way Patreon works is they bill everyone on the 1st of each month. If you join after the 1st, you won’t be billed until the 1st of the next month. I can’t give out rewards if you haven’t paid, so I have to wait until I receive payment before rewards go out.
What video tutorial will I receive each month?
The videos will be random. One month I may do a painting demo while another month I might talk about the industry (finding work, portfolios, etc.). If the video tutorial poll is unlocked, patrons will have more control over the content of the monthly videos.
How long will they be?
There is no specific length restriction, but I expect most videos to be anywhere from 20-60 minutes long. If the “more in-depth” milestone is hit, the videos will be much longer.
Can you explain the “video tutorial poll” milestone?
Video tutorial content will be random, but if the video tutorial poll milestone is met, you get more control. Each month I will ask my patrons what you want to see. I will then pick something from your suggestions.
How do we submit our paintings?
Send jpgs to firstname.lastname@example.org. Make sure the image is big enough (around 4k pixels on the longest side).
How long will the paintovers be?
It really depends on the painting. Based on my previous mentorships, the paintovers were anywhere from 10-30 minutes long.
How in-depth will the paintovers be?
My goal isn’t to create a finished painting, I am simply trying to show you how to improve. You can check my store for some examples of previous paintovers.
Can I give your paintover to my paying client?
I am not here to do your work for you. You can repaint your own painting based on my feedback, but please don’t give my paintover to your client and pass it off as your own work.
When do I send you my paintings for the paintovers?
I would submit them close to the beginning of the month if possible. If you wait until the end of the month, I probably won’t have time to finish them until the next month.
I never sent you any paintings for the paintovers during a certain month, will I still receive them later on?
Please try to send your paintings in during the correct month. For example, if you want to receive your September paintovers, please send me your paintings in September. If you don’t send me anything, you won’t receive any for that month. It is your responsibility to send me your images.
What are the personal assignments?
Personal assignments are unique to each student. For example, if you want to be a concept artist, I may give you a specific assignment to create a character or a turnaround.
Will you do a paintover of the personal assignment?
Depending on your tier, you will get 1-2 paintovers per month. If you want one of them to be your personal assignment, that is perfectly acceptable.
When do I receive my personal assignment?
I try to send them as soon as I can, but if you don’t send me any examples of your work, I can’t really give you an assignment because I have no idea what your stuff looks like.
When is the chat?
Every week there will be a group chat at two different times. I will pick one in the evening and one in the morning. Hopefully people will be able to attend at least one of the chat times.
What do we talk about in the chat?
Anything you want! We can talk about your work, the industry, or anything else you can think of.
How long is the chat?
It really depends on how much we have to talk about, but I need to cap each chat at an hour.
What format will the chat be in?
We will be using Skype. Most likely we will only do text or voice chat and not video chat. My internet connection isn’t always reliable, so video chats don’t work very well. Depending on if I have baby duty and/or if my son is screaming, we might do text only chats instead of voice. I’m sure you don’t want to listen to a crying baby! Plus doing text chats will give me time to come up with assignments and whatnot so that there isn’t awkward silence.
What is archive access and how does it work?
Archive access means you will have access to everyone’s paintover each month. I believe that being able to watch everyone’s video will help you become a better artist. If your tier has the archive access reward, send your Gmail account name to email@example.com. Gmail accounts seem to work the best, other email accounts aren’t as reliable.
