   Hey,

   I hoped you would address my biggest problem with masks…

   You’ve got those hair, where color is washed out, maybe a bit blurry and fades away – this all in a complex form like multiple hairstrains.

   How do you mask these?

   That’s one of the mainreasons why I paint the characters always on their own layer(s), what sometimes can give a cropped look.

   Any solution?

     The easiest way is to keep hair on a separate layer.

   Trying this out in CS5 and noticed that quick mask seems to work in the opposite effect than shown on the video. I was able to reverse this using the marquee tool selection and “selecting inverse” afterwards, but I would prefer it to work as seen in the first masking shown in this tutorial. Anyone know what I may be doing wrong? Following everything step by step but I think it may be a setting with the quick mask?

     I won’t be of any help since I don’t have solution but it’s not a CS5 difference since it works the same way as in the video in CS5 for me (sorry for my bad english…).

   Do you have to paint 100% opaque?

     Nope, you can make semitransparent masks.
