Elysium Sneak Peek – The Art of Daarken

Posted on 2012/09/24 at 13:56 by daarken 43 Comments

Preorders through the 3DTotal site are finally open! If you preorder through 3DTotal’s site, the first 100 people will receive 3, 8.5×11 signed prints! Preorders from other sites like Amazon have been available for awhile now, but they will not come with signed prints, only preorders through 3DTotal will receive them (and only while supplies last).

You can also read more about the book and see some more pictures on my blog.

Update - 3DTotal has informed me that the signed prints for the first 100 pre-orders are gone, but they have now decided to include unsigned prints with ALL pre-orders!

Update 10.25.12 – It looks like the US Amazon has my book in stock!

Man, those pauldrons on the cover are so cool. I’ve never thought of doubling them up while showing the straps around the lower pauldron. Genius! Other artists seem to hit a prime at some point, but you’re like…an art god or something.

Wow, the book looks awesome. I’m pretty interested in it but I was wondering if it would ship worldwide. Do you know if I will be able to purchase it from Spain?

I just ordered one on amazon because there are probably no prints available anymore and the shipping cost is pretty high for me, because I’m from Germany…

Can’t wait at all until I get my hands on it. :D

Thanks! I actually don’t have anything to do with the preorders, shipping, or printing of the book. 3DTotal handles all of that, so I actually don’t have any control or information regarding the orders. You would need to contact them, sorry!

    Daarken your work is awesome!

What Tablet do you use for your work?

Would be nice to see a book for beginners in the near future.

That book can be filled with various themes like:
    -Your Workflow
    -Key Assignement on your tablet
    -Brushes and there options
    -How to start
    -and so on… ^^

    keep it up

You’ve got me as a buyer whenever, and if ever, that comes to pass!

I am definitely buying this! I’ve been following your work on CGHUB for a few years now and I’ve become quite a fan. I always look at your work online but having a book of your work will be even better! I just wish I would have been paying more attention back when you first announced this. I would have liked the autographed prints haha. I just started the Character Animation program at the University of Central Florida, so I’ve been incredibly busy. I also wanted to thank you for all that you do for people like me! I really like enliighten.com and I have found it very helpful!

    Thank you!!

    Hey Daarken.
    Book perused! ;)

I know talking about money in the public many people dont like.
But can you live good with that kind of freelance job?

Do you earn more bugs ;) as an standard worker ? ^^

I would like to live from Freelance 3d works too ;)

Thanks! It really depends on your ability and the clients you work for. Some staff artists make more than freelancers but some freelancers make more than staff artists. From the rates I’ve found online and from other people, freelancers can make anywhere from $30k-100k+ a year. It is a huge range, so it is hard to say where you will land on that scale. You mentioned you wanted to do freelance 3D. I have no idea how much freelance 3D artists make since I don’t do 3D.

Received mine few days ago and I’m just stopping by to say how increadibly EPIC this book is! Every page of it is done with so much love and effort, under every breathtaking illustration there is a text with info, with things to note, with marks, jokes…this book is like having the rare opportunity to sit down and talk to the artist himself, anyplace, anytime. The art is devided into sections- there is Fantasy, Sci-fi, WoW, D&D, portraits, figure drawings etc.Notes from the author- how he aproaches things, what makes Daarken so..dark and epic. A freaking tutorial in the back!!! I recomend this book to all of you.

Thank you for being so down to earth and such a good guy!

Hey Daarken, just a quick question.
I’m an art student and I really love your book and the prints, but i was wondering wether we could get a PDF version somewhere? I mainly work digital but my desk can get quite messy with bister stains and sharps. I’d hate to ruin the book.

Unfortunately there isn’t a PDF version of the book. I have been talking to my publisher about the possibility of doing a Kindle version, but nothing is certain as of right now.

Hi Daarken, my compliments for your new book and for this cool website.
About one year ago I found one your video, so I came here to watch the rest of them, I borrowed your brush set ;) and I started to paint digital for my first time. Now I’m quite happy with my results! Thank you a lot for what you did here, I wish you the best, keep on with your art!!
