Graphic designer from scratch

A graphic designer creates everything we see with our eyes. The main task is to make a visual that will attract the customer.

Course syllabus:
Introduction: what a graphic designer does.
You will learn what skills a graphic designer needs to develop, what “good design” is and how to arrive at it. You will get acquainted with the directions and basic tools for work.

Getting Started with Adobe Illustrator: Designing Your First Banner.
Learn to understand the difference between vector and bitmap graphics and work in Adobe Illustrator. Add a banner to your portfolio.

Adobe Photoshop: explore the composition, work in the program
Learn how the rule of thirds works, hierarchy and balance. In practice, you’ll find out how to clothe objects in Photoshop.

Create Poster
Learn how to work with mental maps to develop associative thinking. Learn how to control the viewer’s attention with the help of fonts. Design a poster in Adobe Illustrator.

Bonus module. Developing your powers of observation
You will learn why insight is so important for a designer and how to develop it.

Talking with the client and creating a presentation in Illustrator.
You will use a real case study to analyze the meeting of a designer and a customer. You’ll develop skills in Illustrator.

Getting Started with Adobe InDesign: Learning the Interface and Designing a Catalog.
You will learn which composition tricks can be applied when making up a catalog and how to choose great illustrations.

Step-by-step creation of a poster for a customer.
You will think up an idea, find references and metaphors and create a visual image.

Identity
You’ll find out what should be taken into consideration at logo design stage. You will analyze examples of global and local brand identities.

Bonus module. Working on the logo and corporate identity of a mini bakery
Learn how to brief a client, select fonts, analyze references, and develop an identity for a French bakery.

Event Identity
Learn how to analyze your target audience, create a mudboard, and define the main idea of the identity. Master the skill of decomposition – learn how to divide a large task into several smaller ones. Understand how the main idea of the project connects all the elements together.

Consider style-forming elements: fonts, illustrations, patterns.
Learn how people perceive color. Learn to find ideas in other people’s work, test them and use them wisely in your own projects.

Presentation for the Client
You will learn how to present your work to a customer and adequately respond to corrections.

Presentation of the event’s identity
You will learn how to present a project and form the first case on Behance. In the process of working on the presentation you will consolidate the knowledge from the previous modules.

A variety of methods and techniques. Competitions for designers.
Experiment with tools and approaches. Find out what events can be useful for graphic designers.

We design the first case. Platforms for portfolio creation
You will learn how to format your case properly to attract attention to your work.
