Texture Overlays – From Photo Source

Sometimes in order to save time or make something look a little more believable or realistic, photo textures can help. Daarken shows you how to add a texture overlay to a painting in order to give armor a more realistic feel. The key is to be subtle and paint opaquely over your texture overlay.

Thanks for that> I never knew what the stamp tool did :P.
also nice painting!
Something i do when the texture isn’t fitting well on the painting is unlocking the texture from its mask by hitting the symbol between them and move it around till i get the desired result. this way u can change the location of the texture without having to repaint the entire mask.
what about warping the texture so it wraps around the form?
Yup, you can do that too.
Nice one Daarken, im ur fan love ur jobs! keep moving
That painting is awesome!
The tutorial was cool too. Thanks to your tutorials I feel like I’m really starting to get a handle on photoshop. Now I just need to get good at the actual digital painting part. Unfortunately I’ve had to devote the last couple of months to oil paint.
Hi Daarken, I see hints of a teal color and a lot of splatter marks in your painting. I see this in a lot of oil paintings and I can’t figure out why artists do that or what the reason is for putting those things there?
There could be many reasons. They might add it because it adds to the texture of the painting. It could be to add some color variation, or it could be because they like the way it looks. It could also be to add some atmosphere, dust, dirt, etc.
Hola Daarken, thanks for you tutorials they are very interesting, because drawing is my hobby.
I did a fanart of a picture of you http://xiscosl.wordpress.com/2012/04/28/terminado-bosque-gotico/ it is not good… but I want to improve XD.
Thanks.
Great technique. Thanks for sharing that. I wish i could paint like that. Just started watching some gnomon videos about matte painting.
I get my textures for background and stuff here: http://www.texturecase.com
Nice tutorial.Very simple but effective method.
Thanks for the tutorials. I’m starting to understand some of the techniques that were lost on me before. Quick unrelated question, what is the music in this video?
I believe I purchased them from Video Copilot.
